Employee Multi-Factor Authentication Enrollment

Tags MFA

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an effective method to strengthen account security. MFA strengthens security by requiring your password and a one-time passcode (OTP) that can be sent to either a non-SMC email address (default), text message to your mobile phone, or on a mobile authenticator app on your smart phone (most secure).

Adding MFA to your account requires two general steps:

  1. First, SMC Information Technology must enable MFA for your account. All new (employee) accounts are MFA enabled.
  2. Then, you will be prompted at your next SMC Sign-on logon to enroll into MFA. See enrollment steps below.

Enrollment Step 1: Once SMC Information Technology has enabled MFA for your account, open a browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge …. etc) simply go to https://www.signon.smc.edu and sign in.

Enrollment Step 2:

If you have previsouly added your non-SMC email address to the SMC Sign-On system, you will now receive an email from Santa Monica College containing your One-Time Passcode (OTP). Enter this code in the "2nd Factor / One Time Passcode" box.
